The Scorched Earth

When the last of us remain on this scorched land
We will watch the ancient footage of our folly.
How we spurned the cries of nature and her hand
How we drained the lifeblood of this planet slowly.

We will see the glaciers melt and oceans rise
We will see the forests burn and deserts spread.
We will see storms, floods, droughts, and fires.
We will see the mass extinction of the living dead.

We will wonder how we could have been so blind.
How we could have let our greed destroy our home
How we could have ignored the signs of our decline
How we could have sealed our fate with a catacomb.

  1. You hit nail right on the head. I feel the emotion of Mother Earth. You really need to publish a book with your writings. I would love to have a copy. Love you.

    1. Thank you, there is one book getting closer to finishing and another in the thought process, the one almost done is a novel the one I’m thinking about and doing some work on is all poetry. Thank you for your kind words.

  2. Looking back now it’s so easy to see how we should have been thinking forward. Right now this very day you can go to YouTube or just Google the subject and you can find so many people who are doing sensible things to help save the planet, but we would All have to work together. What a beautiful dream.

    1. Melody J. Haislip,
All you have to do is watch 10 minutes of world news and you see that everything I just wrote is already happening, we are the remaining few, and taking our bags and boxes to the recycling bin will never be enough until big businesses, the same big business that will fire a floor sweeper making 10 dollars an hour instead of the CEO making 10 thousand a day and call it a budget cut, until they start doing a hell of a lot more there is no turning things around.
